Giving Tuesday – Everyone’s Doing It

The holiday season is upon us! In the coming weeks, your inbox, social media posts and voicemail will be bombarded with invitations, events and messages. In the midst of all the clutter, it can be difficult to focus on the true meaning of the season. Today is the perfect day to take a deep breath and think about what is most important in our complicated world.

“Giving Tuesday” is a movement started in recent years as a response to the commercialization and consumerism of the post-Thanksgiving shopping bonanza beginning with Black Friday and Cyber Monday. With so much attention focused on buying – it can be difficult to remember the spirit of giving that is at the heart of the holiday season.

The original reason for Thanksgiving all those years ago was to give thanks for the blessing of the harvest. Hope Now is working to create an organic harvest on our property.

This year our Giving Tuesday and year-end campaign is focused on rehabilitating a once working organic farm and greenhouse on site. We must continue to create programming that provides job skills training for our kids and generate revenue to sustain our home.

Our kids will work closely with hired staff and learn how to prepare a field, plant crops, build a business cooperative and eventually become a farm-to-table organic produce cooperative serving our community and neighbors.

Celebrate this holiday season by purchasing a tree or a bush for our farm. Help us plant vegetables, herbs and henna bushes that we can dry and sell to local Mehndi artists. Give the gift of an education – the most valuable gift of all.

Consider being a partner – without you we cannot fulfill our purpose and create a world where our kids have the opportunity to build an adult life armed with the tools they need to succeed.
